I’m so honored to tell your university about her academic aspects and personality and recommend her who worked for the Overseas Materials Information Center of Training and Doctrine Command. I’m her superior who worked at the Korea Army Training & Doctrine Command for one and half years with OOO and confident that I’m very much aware of her.
Once, she took on the task of translating research materials of the Rand Corporation. I knew that she was working overtime every day on this project and this came as a surprise to me. I thought it was a little odd that she worked overtime till late at night because I knew she had excellent English ability through her interpretation performance at her previous unit and her translations. Furthermore, the reason that I heard from her senior office who worked with her made me all the more surprised. I heard that she carried out translation while studying each and every research material by comparing it with other military manuals and papers. Later, I heard from her that while translating the research materials of the Rand Corporation, she understood that the US army mass produces combat units suiting its purpose freely based on a brigade and found the direction of changes of the military sector in the future and pondered on how to apply such direction to the Korea military. This shows her insight and academic passion as it is, I think.

I remember it was she who did her best in every matter and when a question arose, asked senior officers or those in the doctrine research office who have master’s and doctorate degrees in politics and security studies to learn more.
She was also an outstanding officer who showed charismatic leadership in taking the reins with soldiers. She always took the initiative in every matter and encouraged every soldier to carry out his or her duty to the fullest. With a cheery outlook, she gave positive energy to not only the overseas materials information center but also the whole of TRADOC and was favored by many people including superiors and subordinates.
I have never seen such a person of adventurous and challenging spirit like her. Her physical strength bears comparison with that of male soldiers. In a long-distance race in the examination of physical strength, her grade was in the first rank among female soldiers and the upper rank among the entire unit including male soldiers. But this was the result of her desperate effort. She suffered from chondromalacia due to her weak knees by nature and received medical treatment. However, in order to overcome physical limits, she used to climb Mt. Geumbyongsan near her unit before going to the office every day. While serving at TRADOC, she began training in boxing after leaving the office every day and made an achievement of obtaining a professional boxing license just a year after she began training. After being discharged from the service, she climbed to the base camp at Annapurna 4130 highland of Himalayas and sent me a calendar which she made using the photos she took at the highlands. I was so impressed by her spirit of challenge and warm heart.
Then, she voluntarily applied for the reserve forces and became a model of the Korean Armed Force as the first female soldier who participated in reserve forces since the foundation of the Armed Force. Her story had influence upon not only the military but also the entire country of Korea and been introduced to the Korea Defense Daily as well as the Monthly Chosun.
It is utterly deplorable that such a woman like her who is talented scholarly and personally discontinued to serve as an active officer. Yet, I support and cheer for her who has a dream to go into the bigger world and learn more to contribute to achieve the security and peace of the world. I firmly believe that Miss Park’s passion and effort in life will illuminate anywhere she goes and as she showed in your Ph.D program as well as TRADOC, she would distinguish herself with the best performance.
