이제석 광고연구소, 포항에 스틸아트 공익작품 기증
독도로 가는 길목인 경북 포항 영일대해수욕장에 ‘이순신 장군’이 등장해 눈길을 끌고 있다.
국내외 주요 현안에 대한 공익적 메시지를 던지고 있는 ‘이제석 광고연구소’가 ‘바른 역사의식이 나라를 지킨다’는 주제의 스틸아트 작품을 제작해 지난달 포항시에 기증한 것.
기존의 이순신 장군 동상을 패러디한 이 작품은 NH농협의 지원으로 제작됐으며, 이날 영일대해수욕장의 명물인 해상전망대 영일대 앞 광장에 설치돼 일반에 공개됐다.
이순신 장군의 손에는 칼 대신 붓과 역사책이 쥐어져 있다. 나라를 지키는데 있어서 바른 역사교육과 역사의식 보다 국토 수호에 더 중요한 것이 없음을 상징적으로 표현한 것이다.
박승호 포항시장은 “최근 독도문제를 비롯해 일본과의 영토문제를 계기로 칼이나 총으로만 나라를 지키는 것이 아니라, 역사를 바로 알고 지키는 것이야 말로 나라를 지키는 것이라는 작품의 기획의도가 좋아 작품을 기증 받기로 했다”고 밝혔다.
이제석 광고연구소 관계자는 “ ‘독도를 잃으면 나라를 잃습니다’라는 주제로 만든 두 번째 작품을 울릉도와 독도로 가는 길목인 포항에 기증하게 돼서 기쁘다”고 말했다.

경북도, 4세대 방사광가속기 내년 준공 목표로 국비 1천200억원 투입
경상북도가 올해 최첨단 연구 인프라인 4세대 방사광가속기 구축에 속도를 내고 있다.
도는 이 사업에 올해 국비 1천200억원을 확보했으며, 2015년까지 총사업비 4천260억원(국비 4천억원, 지방비 260억원)을 투자할 계획이다.
미국(2008), 일본(2010)에 이어 세계 3번째로 만드는 국가 대형연구시설이다.
국가 간 공유를 거의 하지 않는 최첨단 연구시설로, 영국, 프랑스, 중국, 스웨덴 등 세계 각국은 치열한 경쟁 속에서 독자기술로 건설을 추진하고 있다.
앞으로 경북도는 3세대 방사광가속기(포항), 4세대 방사광가속기(포항), 양성자가속기(경주)를 연계해 첨단과학 R&DB단지인 가속기 클러스터 조성을 추진한다.
이 사업은 현 정부의 제18대 대선 지역공약사항으로 동해안 첨단과학 그린에너지 비즈니스 거점의 하나로 추진될 예정이다.
4세대 방사광가속기는 현재 운영 중인 3세대 방사광가속기보다 광원이 100억배 밝다.
또 펄스폭이 1천배 짧아 1천조분의 1초 단위로 물질의 변화와 살아있는 세포의 분자구조를 실시간으로 관찰이 가능한 최첨단 장치다.
4세대 방사광가속기가 구축되면 단백질 구조 연구를 통한 신약개발, 고해상도 종양 촬영을 통한 암치료법 개발, 세계 최초 흡입식 신종플루 치료제 리렌자 개발 등이 가능해진다.
특히 베토벤의 머리카락으로 사망원인 파악, 그리스의 수학자 아르키메데스의 숨겨진 논문 판독 등 과학수사에도 이용된다.
이밖에 반도체 제작, 연료전지 등 친환경 미래 배터리 개발에도 활용된다.
송경창 경북도 창조경제산업실장은 “가속기 클러스터를 통해 신소재, 나노, 로봇, 에너지, 우주항공 산업 등의 기초·원천기술을 개발, 창업을 촉진하고 신산업을 발굴해 창조경제를 지역에서 꽃 피우겠다”고 말했다.
아울러 “포항가속기연구소의 국립 연구기관 전환으로 동해안 연구개발특구 지정도 병행해 과학기술 기반의 지역발전 방안을 더욱 구체화해 나갈 것”이라고 밝혔다.

Yi Je-seok Advertising Institute, donates still art public good piece in Pohang.
‘Admiral Yi Sun-sin’ appeared at Gyeongbuk Pohang Yeongildae beach, the path to Dokdo.
The statue was created by ‘Yi Je-seok Advertising Institute’, which presents public interest messages on major domestic and overseas issues, as a still art piece with the theme ‘Corret history awareness protects our nation’ and was donated to the city of Pohang last month.
This piece which is a parody of the existing Admiral Yi Sun-shin statue was created with the support of NH National Agricultural Cooperative Federation, and was installed at the forum in front of Yeongildae, the famous marine observatory platform at Yeongildae beach, and disclosed to the public this day.
In the hands of Admiral Yi Sun-shin, there are a brush and a history book instead of a sword. This symbolically expresses that nothing is more important than correct history education and history awareness for protecting the nation’s sovereignty.
Park Seung Ho, mayor of Pohang, stated that “we decided to receive the art piece donation because in the light of sovereignty disputes with Japan including the recent Dokdo problem, the artistic intention of the piece which expresses that correctly knowing the history is what truly protects one’s country, instead of just swords and guns.“
An insider of the Yi Je-seok Advertising Institute said that “we are happy to donate our second piece with the theme ‘We lose our country if we lose Dokdo’ to Pohang, the path to Ulleungdo and Dokdo.”

Gyeongsangbuk-do, invests 120 billion won of government fund to complete fourth generation synchroton accelerator
Gyeongsangbuk-do is making progress toward constructing a fourth generation synchroton accelerator, a state-of-the-art research infrastructure, this year.
The province has obtained 120 billion won of government fund for this project this year, and plans to invest a total 426 billion won (400 billion won government fund, 26 billion won regional fund) until 2015.
This is a national large scale research facility, third in the world after the United States(2008) and Japan(2010).
As a state-of-the-art research facility which there is almost no sharing of information between countries, nations around the world such as the United Kingdom, France, China, and Sweden are promoting construction with their independent technology in the midst of heated competition.
In the future, Gyeongsangbuk-do plans to create an accelerator cluster, a cutting edge R&DB complex, by connecting the third generation synchroton accelerator(Pohang), fourth generation synchroton accelerator(Pohang), and proton accelerator(Gyeongju).
As a regional pledge item of the current regime during the 18th presidential election, this project is expected to be promoted as one of the bases for the East Coast State-of-the-Art Science Green Energy Business.
The light source of the fourth generation synchroton accelerator is 10 billion times brighter than that of the currently operated third generation synchroton accelerator.
Also, the pulse width is 1000 time shorter, making it a state-of-the-art device with which the change in material and molecular structure of a living cell can be observed in real time at an interval of one thousand trillionth of a second.
If the fourth generation synchroton accelerator is established, new medicine development through protein structure research, cancer cure development through high resolution tumor photography, and development of Relenza, the world’s first suction type H1N1 virus medicine will be possible.
Especially, it will be used in scientific investigation such as unveiling the cause of Beethoven’s death with his hair or deciphering Greek mathematician Archimedes’ hidden paper.
Also, it is used in semiconductor manufacturing and the development of future environment friendly batteries such as fuel cells.
Song Kyeong Change, Gyeonsangbuk-do’s Head of Creative Economy Businesses, said that “With the accelerator cluster, fundamental·source technology in areas such as new material, nanotech, robots, energy, and aerospace industries can be developed, promote entrepreneurship, and discover new industries to blossom Creative Economy in the region.“
He also stated that “The designation of East Coast Research and Development Speical Zone will be promoted in parallel to Pohang Accelerator Laboratory’s change into a national research institution as we specificy the regional development plan based on science technology.”
