미국에서는 NIEHS가 중심이 되어 해마다 다수의 화학물질에 대한 안전성평가를 위해 NTP에서 이들 물질들의 모든 독성에 대해 전반적인 재평가를 실시하고 있습니다. 이와 같은 배경에 기초하여 우리나라에서도 식품의약품안전청이 중심이 되어 현재 KNTP를 실시 중에 있습니다. 우리가 먹는 식품 중에는 PAHs 화합물, 중금속, 농약류와 같은 다수의 유해화학물질이 포함되어 있으며 이들 물질들에 대한 인체노출 정도에 대해서는 많은 연구들이 진행되고 있습니다. 또한 그 위해작용 및 독성에 대해서도 다수의 연구보고가 있습니다. 본인은 KNTP과제로 식품첨가물, 식품오염물질 및 중금속에 대한 연구를 하고자 합니다. 식품첨가물, 식품오염물질 및 중금속은 우리의 환경 중에 가장 다양하게 분포되어 있음에도 불구하고 지금까지 이들에 대한 많은 연구가 진행되어 있으나 학문적인 가치에서 점차 등한시되고 있는 실정입니다. 특히 이들 물질 중에는 발암성, 내분비계장애작용 등이 보고되는 물질도 다수 포함되어 있어 체계화된 독성연구를 통해 독성영향 보고, 독성기전 규명 및 위해성평가 등이 절실하게 요구되고 있습니다. |

In the United States, National Toxicology Program (NTP) under the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) performs overall reassessment on the toxicity of a number of chemicals for the purpose of conducting risk assessment on such substances. Based on such background, Korea also has established the Korea National Toxicology Program (KNTP) under Korea Food and Drug Administration. Foods we eat contain numerous harmful chemicals such as PAH compounds, heavy metals, and pesticides, and many studies have been conducted on the degree of human exposure to such substances. Also, many reports have been presented on the harmful effects and toxicity of such substances. I plan on conducting research studies on food additives, food pollutants and heavy metals as part of KNTP project. Food additives, food pollutants and heavy metals are most diversely distributed in the environment and many researches have been conducted on such substances but unfortunately have been slowly disregarded at the question of academic value. Especially, some of these substances are reported to be carcinogenic and endocrine disruptors, and thus there is a desperate need for report on toxic effects, identification of toxic mechanism and risk assessment through systemized research on toxicology. |
