With a worldwide focus on environment and the deepening of the corresponding regulations, there has been an increasing interest in the next generation high efficiency heat exchanger system. The current trend shows increasing demand for such next generation heat exchangers with the diverse applications to various areas such as aviation, ships, and power plants. Presently, the scale of global market for heat exchanger parts and equipment is about 10 trillion won, which shows an annual growth rate of about 1.4%, and it is expected to reach about 10.9 trillion won in 2010.

Accordingly, to empower local companies to attain global competitiveness in the next generation heat exchangers industry, Center for Next Generation Heat Exchangers will establish a foundation for advancing into the global market by efficiently organizing and supporting cooperative system between the overseas institutions and companies and Korea’s industry and university research network through next generation heat exchangers related research and development, performance assessment and production technology development, relevant information service and Global Supply Chain building support.

Center for Next Generation Heat Exchangers, established jointly by the Ministry of Knowledge Economy (formerly named the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy) and Busan Metropolitan City, provides comprehensive support for the heat exchanger related industry. The Center’s major project is transforming the heat exchanger related companies in the local region into globally competitive companies specializing in the next generation heat exchangers. Such project requires contributing to the building of organic cooperative system between the related companies and organizations in the southeastern region, which traditionally has been the production center of heat exchanger equipment industry for fishery product freezing, air conditioning equipment, ships and automobiles, and fulfilling the responsibilities of supporting organization for the heat exchanger industry.
