서울시 도로의 이미지는 그물망과 같이 연결되어 있다. 우리는 그 그물망 위의 구슬과 같음을 은 유한 인터랙티브 인스톨레이션으로 관객이 각 구슬의 주인공이 된다. 각 구슬들은 고유의 빛을 가지고 있는데 상대방의 구슬에 그 고유의 빛을 내비치면 그 구슬에 그 빛이 반영되고 반영된 빛을 머금은 그 구슬은 다른 구슬에 그 빛을 내비칠 수도 있다. 상대에 의해서 반영된 빛을 머금은 구슬이 다시 처음의 구슬에 그 빛을 다시 비추이면 그 구슬은 처음 가지고 있던 빛을 잃지는 않으나 새로운 빛을 머금게 된다. 그렇게 구슬은 서로에게 원인과 결과이면서, 반영(reflection)이고 연관되어 있을 뿐만 아니라 주인공인 구슬이 놓여져있는 그물망 또한 신경망 네트워크처럼 연관되어 있으며 환경데이터는 실시간으로 연동되어 시각화한다.

<펼쳐진 도시, 떠다니는 기호들 Unfolded Cities, Floating Signs>는 도시라는 거대한 집합체를 재 편성하고 재구획해 나가는 유기체로서의 경로를 만들어가는 과정이다. 물질적 오브제로서의 간판 과 그 안의 글자들은 그 위를 지나가는 경로들에 의해 펼쳐지기도 하고 접혀지기도 한다. 간판과 간판, 그리고 그 안의 글자와 경로들은 결국 도시와 사람과의 관계를 의미한다. 나는 이 작업이 도 시공간화 된 사고방식, 접혀지고 접혀진 기호들 안에서의 현대인들의 이동의 삶을 상징적으로 드 러내는 어떤 것이었으면 한다.

<Fish Organum>는 서울의 각 행정구역의 날씨데이터, 교통데이터, 그 밖의 환경데이터와 감정데이 터를 바탕으로 만들어지는 시각소리장치이다. 원래 오르가눔(organum)은 그리스어로 ‘기관’, ‘기계’를 의미하는 영어의 organ을 의미하며, 이 오르가눔은 동시에 음악적으로 ‘풍금(오르간)’과 ‘초기다성음악’ 을 의미한다. 따라서 오르가눔은 전시의 주제인 유기체로서의 도시와 어원적 밀접성을 가진다. 생물학 적 측면에서 생명체 즉 올가니즘(organism)은 기본적인 기능을 가진 오르간(기관)들이 구성된 집합체 (ensemble)로서, 외부 자극에 반응하고, 생산, 성장, 발달 그리고 항상성을 유지하는 무엇을 의미한다. 본 작품은 이러한 생명적 개념의 오르가눔과 음악적 개념의 오르가눔을 바탕으로 서울이라는 도시를 생명체적으로 재해석하고자 한다.< Fish Organum>은 서울의 각 행정구역의 실시간 날씨, 교통, 환경정보와 이들 구역에 대해 사람들 이 느끼는 감정들을 분석한 데이터들을 기초로 이미지와 소리를 알고리듬적으로 만드는 기관(organ) 들을 만들며, 이 기관들의 상호작용을 통해서 이미지와 소리의 성장, 발달, 변화를 보여준다. 여기서 물고기는 자유로운 영혼을 가진 존재자로서 이 오르가눔의 변화의 요인을 제공하는 랜덤변수이자, 오르가눔을 연주하는 음악가로서의 역할을 하게 된다. 관객은 서울의 실시간 데이터와 간략화된 서울 지도로 만들어진 오디오-비주얼 악보를 바탕으로 오르가눔을 연주하는 물고기의 앙상블을 경험하게 된다.

사람의 몸은 복잡한 네트워크지만 평균 세 단계의 화학반응만 거치면 우리 몸에 필요한 물질을 만들 수 있도록 진화했다. 최적의 효율성을 갖는 우리 몸속 네트워크를 미래 인터넷 설계에서도 적용 가능하다는 것에 착안하여 만든 작품이다. 서울특별시청의 대기환경정보 서비스에서 오염물 질인 아황산가스, 이산화질소, 일산화탄소 및 오존과 미세먼지 등의 1시간 단위로 서울시 39개 측정소로 보내주는 데이터를 신경망 네트워크를 응용하여 시각화한 작품이다. (Seoul Square – 한빛 미디어 파크-상암 DMC 누리꿈 스퀘어)에 이미지가 동시 표출되면 트라이앵글 사이클로 순환하는 구조를 가지는 것을 시각화하였다. 각 파사드의 특성에 따라 달리 표현되는 Body Network는 오염물질의 수치에 따라 이미지가 변화하며 Body Network내에서도 다양한 순환구조를 가진다..

<Fish Organum> 설치작업과 이 작업은 네트워크를 통해 연동이 된다. 서울의 행정구역의 다양한 데이터를 시각화한 아이콘들이 실시간으로 세 곳의 미디어 파사드에 표출하게 되는데, 이 아이 콘들은 현재 어항 속 물고기가 연주하는 오르가눔 악보의 일부이다. 이 거대한 아이콘들은 우리가 사는 도시 의 표정이자 우리가 이들 도시에 대해 느끼는 감정의 상징이 된다. |

The image of the roads in Seoul is that they are connected to one another like a mesh. The interactive installation, which metaphorizes that we are like the beads on this mesh, makes the audience the very beads. Each bead has its own light. If it shines its unique light on another, the light will be reflected on that other bead, and the other bead with the reflected light may shine this light to yet another bead. If the bead with the light emitted by another bead shines this light back on the first bead, this bead will take on a new light though it will not lose the original light. Like this, the beads are cause and effect to one another, and reflections to one another. Not only are they interrelated, but also the mesh on which the beads are placed are interconnected like a neural network. The environmental data are interlocked and visualized in real time.

<Unfolded Cities, Floating Signs> is the process of making the path as an organism that reorganizes and readjusts the gigantic aggregate called city. Signs as physical objects and the characters in the signs are unfolded or folded by the paths passing over the signs. Signs and signs, and the characters in them and the paths signify the relationship between the city and the people in it. I hope that this work is something that symbolically exposes the way of thinking bent on urban space, and the migratory life of modern people in the folded and refolded signs.

<Fish Organum> is an audio-visual system made from the weather, traffic, environmental and emotional data of each administrative district of Seoul. Originally, organum is ‘organ’ in Greek, and ‘machine’ in English. At the same time, organum refers to ‘organ’ and ‘polyphony’ from the musical point of view. Accordingly, organum is closely related to urban organism, which is the subject of the exhibition, in etymological terms. From the biological viewpoint, an organism is an ensemble of organs that have their own basic functions. It means something that responds to external stimuli, produces, grows, develops and maintains homeostasis. This work tries to reinterpret the City of Seoul organically on the basis of organum from the biological and musical point of view. <Fish Organum> makes organs that algorithmically produce images and sounds based on the analysis of the real-time weather, traffic and environmental data of each administrative Seoul, and the emotions people feel about the district, and uses the interaction among these organs to show the growth, development and changes of images and sounds. Here, the fish, as a being with a free soul, serves as a random variable providing the factors of the changes in this organum, and as the musician playing the organum. The audience will experience the ensemble of the fishes playing the organum with the audio-visual score made of the real-time data of Seoul and the simplified map of Seoul.
Gyeong-Mi Kim <Body Network>

The human body is a complicated network, but has evolved so much that the substances required by our body can be made through the three-step chemical reaction on average. This work was created based on the notion that the most efficient network inside the human body can be applied to future Internet design. The data about pollutants, such as sulfur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, carbon monoxide, ozone and fine dust, is sent to 39 weather stations in Seoul each hour by the Air Quality-Climate Change Information service of Seoul. The neural network was utilized to visualize this data. If the images are sent to (Seoul Square – Hanbit Media Park-Sangam DMC Nuridream Square) simultaneously, they are circulated in the triangular cycle. This structure is visualized. The Body Network, expressed differently depending on the characteristics of each facade, will change the images according to the ppm of pollutants, and have diverse circulatory structures inside the Body Network.

<Fish Organum> The installation and this work are interlocked through the network. The icons visualizing the various data of the administrative districts of Seoul, are shown on three media facades in real time. These icons are part of the score for the organium played by the fishes playing the organum. This huge icons are the expression of the city we live in, and symbolize the emotions we feel about this city. |
