2. 본 연구는 『국민노후보장패널』자료를 이용하여 사망관련 비용이 노인가계의 의료비 지출에 미치는 영향을 살펴보았다. 분석결과에 따르면, 노인가계의 의료비 지출은 노인의 건강상태와 사망관련 사건이 중요하게 영향을 미치고 있음을 확인하였다. 특히, 사망 전 시기가 노인가계의 의료비 지출에 큰 영향을 미치며, 사망 전 시기의 의료비 지출에 미치는 영향은 사망자의 사망시 연령이 증가함에 따라 감소하는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 출생 후 시기인 나이보다는 사망 전 시기가 노인가계의 의료비 지출에 중요한 설명요인이라는 것을 의미한다. 이는 장래의 노인의료비 추계에 있어 인구구조의 변화만을 반영하는 것은 충분하지 못하며, 노인의 건강상태와 사망관련 비용을 함께 고려해야 한다는 사실을 보여준다.

1. This study used the 『Korea Welfare Panel Study』 data from year 1 to year 5 to examine the poverty transition between age groups and its determinants. 2. This study used the 『Korean Retirement and Income Study』 data to examine the influence of death-related expenses on the medical expenses of elderly households. According to the analysis results, it was confirmed that the health of the elderly and death-related accidents greatly affected the medical expenses of elderly households. In particular, the period prior to death greatly influenced the medical expenses of elderly households, and the influence of the pre-death period on medical expenses declined as the age at death increased. This result means that the pre-death period is a more important determinant of the medical expenses of elderly households than age, the post-birth period. It indicates that reflecting the changes in the population structure alone is not sufficient in estimating the future medical expense of the elderly, and that the health of the elderly and death-related expenses must also be taken into account.
