The fabric exhibition Expofil held in 1989 proposed the fashion trend of 1990 and 1991 titled “Going Green”, which reflects the interest on the conservation of earth. Especially, Promostyl, a fashion trend forecasting agency, published the “Ecostyl” since 1992, concentrating on ecology in woven fabrics and making studies on the problems in ecology (Han So-Won, Kim Yeong-In, 1999). Such interest on ecology affected the fabric industry, and Novotex, a Danish manufacturer successfully minimized the possible pollution in the entire finishing process through the use of a complex purification and surveillance system by developing Green cotton made with the minimal use of chemical additives. Moreover, a life cycle model has been developed for cotton products with the statement about the environmental effects that rise in the life cycle phase (Cheon Yu-Jeong, 2004). Fabrics are selected first when the theme of the fashion is decided, and are one of the most important factors considered by customers when making a decision to purchase a product. The process of developing a fabric that suit the trend is called fabric trend forecast and is the first process in the fashion products value chain, and so it is the most important thing to make a prediction in advance with exact information on fabric trends. However, despite such importance of fabric planning, description on trends concept and color and fashion style trends occupies the largest portion in fashion trends, and in the developer’s point of view, description on fabric trends is generally made using difficult terminology (Kim Su-Ji, 2004). |
