As his German teacher and class advisor for three years in high school, I have watched OOO grow into a student with a firm goal to become a business executive like his father who is a respected businessman. He was always sincere about his dream, did not fear trials and errors, and matured his perspective of the world with various experiences. Especially, he was a student who always read books even when he was busy with college admissions and had a balanced set of values with no prejudice or bias compared to other students. He tried various approaches in solving a given assignment and always took responsibility for his share in any situation. These characteristics shaped his flexible leadership and made him trusted by his fellow classmates.
When I think of OOO, there are certain anecdotes that I can clearly remember to this day.
1. There was one time when OOO, who was hospitalized due to an illness, came to school wearing his patient gown. He came because he wanted to check the progress of a team assignment and get materials that were needed to solve the assignment. His effort to not burden his teammates with his workload and fulfill his role as the team’s leader motivated his group members and they were able to get a good result.
2. Among OOO’s classmates, there was one student who couldn’t eat meals at the student cafeteria, which became extremely hot in the summer compared to other places, because his body would heat up too much. When every student would only think that meals should be eaten at the cafeteria and pity his situation, OOO suggested to his advisor and nutritionist to let him eat lunch with the classmate who couldn’t go to the cafeteria in the classroom instead. Watching OOO deliver the food for his friend to the classroom, other students in his class also participated. As they took turns to carry the meal for their friend, everyone in the class became much closer and brightened up the classroom.
3. During Song Baek Festival, our school festival, OOO represented his class in the talent show and received a lot of positive reaction from the audience by parodying a popular comedy program at the time with the context of the school. The wit and sense of humor that OOO showcased in a situation when the other classmate who originally planned to represent the class had to give up the talent show abruptly surprised his classmates and was a great opportunity for him to overcome his shy personality.
Our school is a specially purposed foreign language high school where a small number of admitted students attend. Students can learn three different foreign languages, as well as the cultures of each country. OOO majored in German, minored in English, and studied French as his third language, further ventured into the cultures of various countries learned from the school’s curriculum by reading on his own. Influenced by his father who runs a business in China, he also studied Chinese and had the opportunity to experience their culture.
With these experiences, OOO matured into an individual who acknowledges diversity and has a balanced perspective of the world without being biased toward one side. Also, his warm nature to consider and care for others is characteristic of a leader who can bring unity and harmony, and I believe this will be his foundation of becoming a great business leader.
