o The quality of ground water is alkaline with pH ranging from 7.1 to 9.2, chloride content ranges between 21 and 1380 ppm.

o South of Delhi average chloride content is 250 ppm while in some other areas it is around 1000 ppm rendering the water saline covering the area of 32 km. Sq. and marginally saline over the area of 129 sq km.

o Delhi Jal Board (DJB) is the sole government agency responsible for meeting water demands of the city.

o It has the capacity of supplying 670 million gallons water per day (MGD). Accounting for 20% transit losses, DJB supplies around 536 MGD water. The city demands 830 MGD water approximately. Thus, there is a shortage of almost 294 MGD water, which is met by two private sources:
