2012 국제수지상세포 학술대회 대구 유치 성공 !
○ 국제수지상세포 학술대회는 30개국 1,200여명이 참가하는 의학 분야 전문 국제학술대회로서 매 2년마다 대륙별 순회 개최되며 아시아에서는 일본이 1990년도와 2008년도, 호주가 2000년도에 개최한 바 있으며 우리나라는 2012년도 제12차 대회를 대구 엑스코에서 5일간 개최할 예정이다.

○ 이번 업무협정체결에는 대구컨벤션뷰로 백창곤 대표이사와 국제수지상세포학회 조직위원장인 김호연교수(가톨릭의과대학교), 사무총장 이종길교수(충북대학교), 학술위원장 배용수교수(성균관대학교)등이 참석한 가운데 역대 최대 행사 개최를 위한 조직위원회와 대구시의 공동 홍보마케팅 방안과 지원 협조 등을 결의했다.

○ 행사가 개최되는 2012년에는 엑스코(2011년 5월 완공)가 1,600석 규모의 최신형 극장식 오디토리움과 14개의 전문 회의장을 신설하여 최첨단 회의시설에서 참가자들을 맞이함으로써 행사의 성공적인 개최에 더욱 기대를 모으고 있다.

○ 수지상세포(dendritic cell)란 몸 안에서 암세포나 병원체 등을 감지해 면역세포를 활성화하는 항원전달세포(antigen-presenting cell) 중의 하나로 바이러스 침입에 대한 방어 역할을 하는 주요 세포이다.

○ 이러한 수지상세포는 난치성 바이러스 질환이나 항암 등 난치병 치료 및 면역학 부분 전반에 응용되는 세포로서 면역세포에 의한 암 치료에 있어 화학요법이나 방사선치료보다 부작용이 적기 때문에 최근 수지상세포로 면역력을 강화해 암을 치료하려는 연구가 눈에 띄게 늘고 있는 추세이며, 우리나라의 수지상세포 연구분야는 세계적 수준이라고 조직위는 밝히고 있다.

○ 대구시는 이번 행사를 통해 세계적으로 권위 있는 의학 전문의 등이 대구를 방문함에 따라 첨단의료복합도시로서의 대구홍보와 학계발전뿐 아니라 경제 파급효과 역시 다른 어느 행사보다도 클 것으로 기대하고 있다.

○ 앞으로 대구시와 국제회의 전담조직인 대구컨벤션뷰로와 함께 향후 2015년 세계물리치료연맹 학술대회 등 대규모 의학분야 국제회의를 유치하여 ‘메디 시티’ 대구 조성 기반을 다질 계획이며, 아울러 해외 참가자 증대를 위해 내년도 스위스에서 개최되는 제11차 국제수지상세포 학술대회에 참가하여 2012년 대구 대회를 적극 홍보할 예정이다.

Daegu Succeeded in Winning the Hosting of 2012 International Symposium on Dendritic Cells!
○ International Symposium on Dendritic Cells is an international forum in the field of medical science and is participated by over 1,200 people from 30 countries. It is held once every two years by rotating continents with Japan hosting the event in 1990 and 2008, and Australia hosting in 2000. Korea will be hosting the 12th International Symposium on Dendritic Cells at Daegu EXCO for 5 days in 2012.

○ At the conclusion of MOU negotiations, plans for joint marketing promotion and support cooperation between the organizational committee and Daegu City for the successful hosting of a historically largest event have been determined in the presence of Chang-Gon Paik, the Chairman of Daegu Convention & Visitors Bureau, Professor Ho-Yeon Kim (Catholic Medical College), the Chairman of the organizational committee for the International Symposium on Dendritic Cells, Professor Jong-Gil Lee (Chungbuk National University), the Secretary-General of the organizational committee, and Professor Yong-Soo Bae (Sungkyunkwan University), the Chairman of Science Committee.

○ By 2012, EXCO (to be completed in May 2011), where the event would take place, would introduce its new establishment of the latest style auditorium theater with 1,600 seats and new 14 conference halls that are equipped with cutting edge technology. The successful hosting of the event is highly expected with such high-tech conference facilities at EXCO.

○ Dendritic cell is a type of antigen-presenting cell that stimulate immune cells by detecting cancer cells or pathogens in the body. It is an important cell that initiates a primary immune response against viral infections.

○ Such dendritic cells are applied to the treatment of incurable diseases such as intractable viral diseases and cancer and the overall areas of immunology, and because these cells have less side effects in treating cancer with immune cells compared to chemical therapy and radiation treatment, the number of studies on cancer treatment by strengthening immunity with dendritic cells has been increasing. Also, the committee confirms that Korea’s achievements in the field of dendritic cell study is at global standing.

○ Numerous worldly renown medical experts from all over the world will visit Daegu to participate in this event and Daegu is hopeful that this event will not only promote Daegu as the high-tech medical complex city and the academic development but also lead to a greater economic ripple effect than any other events.

○ Moving forward, Daegu City together with Daegu Convention & Visitors Bureau plans to establish a foundation for forming ‘Medi-City’ by winning the hosting of large-scale international conferences in the field of medical science such as 2015 World Confederation for Physcial Therapy Conference. Furthermore, in order to increase the number of participants to the 2012 event, Daegu will engage in active promotion of 2012 Daegu event by participating in the 11th International Symposium on Dendritic Cells to be held in Switzerland next year.
