세상은 오늘도 디지털 혁명이 진행 중입니다.
세계 곳곳에서 새로운 기술이 개발되고 있고, 새로운 기술은 인간과 인간을 연결해 새로운 문화를 탄생 시킵니다.
디지털 기술의 발달은 우리 세상에 무한한 더하기를 가능하게 했습니다. 그 중 하나가 과학과 예술이라는 결코 가까워 보이지 않는 장르의 ‘콜라보레이션’입니다.
이런 새로운 흐름을 대표하는 곳이 바로 서울시의 <한빛미디어갤러리>입니다. 문화 예술과 영상 분야의 콜라보레이션을 꾸준히 실험하고 있는 이 곳은, 실험적인 전시를 통한 작가 발굴, 뉴미디어 학술 연구, 예술 나눔을 통해 필요한 문화 예술의 새 지평을 열었습니다.
특히 이번 전시 <채미현&Dr.Jung>은 레이저라는 기술로 대자연과
생명의 이치를 표현하고 있습니다.
달빛처럼, 우리의 삶에 스며있는 예술을 공평히 비추고, 자연 속에 내재된 생명력이 우리의 음악이 되고 사랑이 되고 예술이 되길 바랍니다.
수많은 시행착오를 반복하면서도 포기하지 않고, 당당히 자신의 세계를 구현해 낸 작가 『채미현&Dr.Jung』의 열정에 박수를 보냅니다.

「DNA-물종자」
ES-29, ES-37, KJ-88, GW-96, IG-82……… 뜻을 알 수 없는 기호가 적힌 수 백여 개의 시험관은 투명한 액체가 담겨있는 채로 전시장 바닥에 펼쳐져 있다.
10여 년 전, 한 연구기관에서 국내 수질조사를 위해 전국에 있는 강·하천·호소 지점에서 물을 채집하여 Ph, 수온, 용존산소(DO) 등을 측정하는 프로젝트를 진행하였다. 수질조사의 목적을 달성한 후, 실험실 하수구에 쏟아 버려져야 했던 수 백 여 개의 채집된 물은 우연한 기회에 작가와 조우한다.
작가는 채집된 물에서 장소특정적(Site-specific) 자연을 담아 낸 순수 생명성의 DNA를 발견한다. 그리고 작가는 이들에게 「DNA-물종자」라는 이름을 부여한다. 작가는 「DNA-물종자」가 작품자체라고 선언하지 않는다. 다만, 작가는 10여 년 전 장소특정적 자연이 품었던 물종자의 DNA를 보존하는 행위를 통해 생물학적, 예술적 실천을 이어간다. 순수 생명성이 지닌 자연의 원초적 회귀와 순환 속에서 작가는 지나간 시간의 한 조각을 지켜내는 과정을 걷고 있는 것이다. 과정을 걷는 것… 작가가 10여 년 동안 「DNA-물종자」를 보존하고, 관찰하는 예술적 의의가 여기에 있다.
작품은 관람자가 가만히 서서 작품을 관조하기 보다 관람자의 걷는 행위를 유도하고 있다. 「DNA-물종자」가 지닌 사유의 강을 따라 걸어보자. 존재와 시간 그리고 생명성이 지닌 심연의 깊이를 느낄 수 있을 것이다.
Dr. JUNG은 읊조린다. 지구는 둥글다, 달도, 해도.
원은 평면상의 한 점에서 일정한 거리(반지름)에 있는 무수한 점들의 집합이다. 중심으로부터의 거리가 반지름보다 작은 부분을 원의 내부, 반지름보다 큰 부분을 원의 외부라 한다. 또한 이 곡선과 내부를 합친 도형을 원판(圓板)이라 하는데, 이것을 원이라 하는 경우도 있고, 이 경우에는 곡선 자체를 특히 원주(圓周)라 한다.
원은 고대 이집트나 바빌로니아의 기록에도 나타나 있다.
원과 직선은 한 점도 공유(共有)하지 않든지 또는 단지 한 점을 공유하든지 또는 서로 다른 두 점을 공유하든지의 세 가지 상태를 나타낸다. 원과 단지 한 점 P를 공유하는 직선을 원의 접선(接線), 점 P를 접점(接點)이라 하며, 접선은 접점 P를 지나는 반지름에 수직이다. 원과 서로 다른 두 점을 공유하는 직선을 원의 할선(割線)이라 한다
반지름 r인 원주, 즉 원주(원둘레)의 길이를 l이라 하면 원주 l과 지름 2r와의 비는 원의 반지름에 관계없이 일정하다. 이 비 l/2r＝π를 원주율(圓周率)이라 하고, 그리스 소문자 π로 나타낸다. 따라서 반지름 r인 원의 원주의 길이는 공식 l＝2πr 로 주어진다. 또한 반지름 r인 원의 넓이 S의 공식은 S＝πr２ 으로 주어진다. 해석기하학에서 평면상에 직교축을 취한 경우, 중심의 좌표가 (a,b)이고 반지름이 r인 원의 방정식은 (x－a)２＋(y－b)２＝r２ 이며, 이심률(離心率)이 0인 특별한 타원으로 볼 수 있다. 또한 평면상의 길이가 일정한 폐곡선 중에서 그 곡선으로 둘러싸인 도형의 넓이가 최대인 것은 원이다. 특히 중심이 원점에 있고 반지름이 r인 원의 방정식은 x２＋y２＝r２으로 나타낼 수 있다.
원의 둘레와 지름의 비율로서 원주율은 원의 크기에 상관없이 항상 일정하다. 옛날에도 지금도 앞으로도. 원이 눈동자만해도 얼굴만해도 우물만해도 백두산만해도 지구만해도 태양만해도 은하계만해도 안드로메다만해도 원이 아무리 커져도 모두 둘레는 지름의 3.14159….. 배이다. 아침이슬 물방울만해도 좁쌀만해도 모기발톱만해도 나노입자만해도 소립자만해도 원이 아무리 작아져도 똑같다. 전시장의 레이저 움직임은 원운동 자취가 바탕이다. 이 원의 미학은 캔버스의 뚫림도, 태극문양도, 스톤헨지 입석체계도 모두 그렇다. 원래 만물의 원리가 그렇듯이. 비유클리드 기하학에서도 임의의 주어진 점을 중심으로 하고 임의로 주어진 두 번째 점을 통과하는 원을 작도할 수 있다. |

Even today, the world is in progress of a digital revolution.
New technology is being developed in various places of the world, and it connects men to give birth to a new culture.
The development of digital technology made infinite additions in our world possible. The ‘collaboration’ between science and art, genres that never seem to be close, is one example.
The place that represents such new trend is Seoul’s <Hanbit Media Gallery>. Constantly experimenting with the collaboration of cultural art and the field of images, this place has opened a new horizon of cultural art, by discovering new artists through experimental exhibition, academic research on new media, and sharing art.
This exhibition <Mi Hyeoun Choi&Dr.Jung> expresses the great nature and reason of life using a technology known as the laser. (영어 이름 확인요망)
I hope that it will evenly enlighten the art ingrained in our lives like the moon light, and that the liveliness embodied within nature becomes our music, love, and art.
I applaud the artists 『Mi Hyeoun Choi&Dr.Jung』 for their passion in not giving up, despite repeating numerous trials and errors, and boldly creating their own world.

「DNA-Water Seed」
ES-29, ES-37, KJ-88, GW-96, IG-82……… hundreds of test tubes with unknown signs written on them are spread across the floor of the exhibition area, each containing clear liquid.
Around 10 years ago, a research center collected water from rivers · streams · lakes nationwide to study domestic water quality and conducted a project on measuring Ph, water temperature and dissolved oxygen (DO) etc. After reaching the goal of the study, hundreds of collected water, which had to be dumped in the drains of the lab, coincidently meet with the artist.
From the collected water, the artist discovers the DNA of pure liveliness that contains site-specific nature. And the artist provides them with the name 「DNA-Water Seed」. The artist does not declare that 「DNA-Water Seed」 is the piece of art itself. Instead, the artist merely continues a biological, artistic practice through actions of preserving the DNA of the water seed that site-specific nature nested 10 years ago. Within the instinctive regression and circulation of nature, which possesses pure liveliness, the artist is walking through a process of guarding a piece of passed time. Walking through the process… this is where the artistic significance of the artist preserving and observing the 「DNA-Water Seed」 lies.
The artwork induces its audience to walk instead of standing still and observe it. Let us walk along the river of reason that 「DNA-Water Seed」 possesses. You will then feel the depth of the abyss that existence, time, and liveliness carries.

A circle is a set of infinite points that are at a certain distance (radius) from a single point on a plane. The area which distance from the center is shorter than the radius is interior of the circle, and the area which distance from the center is longer than the radius is the exterior of the circle. Also, the shape combined by this curve and the interior is called a disc, or also referred to as a circle, and in this case, the curve itself is called the circumference.
The circle appears even in records from ancient Egypt or Babylonia.
A circle and a line has three types of states; they may not share even a single point, or share just one point, or share two different points. A line that shares only one point P with a circle is called the circle’s tangent line, point P is called the tangent point, and the tangent line is perpendicular to the radius that passes tangent point P. A line that shares two different points with a circle is called the circle’s secant.
If we say that the length of a circumference of radius r, that is a circle’s circumference, the ratio of the circumference l and the diameter 2r is fixed, regardless of the circle’s radius. This ratio l/2r＝π is called the circle ratio, and is represented with the Greek letter π. Therefore the length of the circumference of a circle with radius r is given by the formula l＝2πr. Also, the area S of a circle with radius r is given by the formula S＝πr２. If we assume perpendicular axes on a plane according to analytical geometry, the equation of a circle that has its center’s coordinate as (a,b) and a radius of r is (x－a)２＋(y－b)２＝r２, and can also be viewed as an oval with an eccentricity of 0. Also, among looped curves that have a fixed length on a plane, the shape that is wrapped by the curve and has the largest area is the circle. Especially, the equation of a circle that has its center at the origin and has a radius of r can be expressed as x２＋y２＝r２.
As the ratio of the circumference of the circle to its diameter, the circle ratio is always fixed regardless of the circle’s size. Whether in the past, present, or the future, or whether the circle is the size of a pupil, face, well, Mt. Baekdu, the Earth, the Sun, the galaxy, or even the Andromeda, the circle will have a circumference that is 3.14159… times its diameter, no matter how big it is. Even if the circle is the size of a drop of morning dew, a grain of millet, a mosquito’s toenail, a nano-particle, or elementary particles, it will be the same no matter how small it gets. The movement of the laser in the exhibition area is based on the traces or circular movement. This esthetics of the circle is the same in the hole of a canvas, the taeguk symbol, or the Stonehenge system of standing stones. Like how the principle of all creations is. Even in non-Euclidean geometrics, we can draw a circle that has a randomly given point as its center and passes another randomly given point. |
